Dance RSS FeedsSong of the Day: The Cataracs - "Club Love" - "Club Love" is as good an introduction to The Cataracs as any. They have had quite a lot of songs put up on Youtube, but this one is infectious and sexy. The beat is seductive and the boys have excellent vocal performances on the track. This is the type of production that easily garners fans. "Club Love" isn't all that complex, overall it is minimal but that allows all the aspects of the song to fuse together into something that really connects with listeners. Featured on "Club Love" is Dev, who's voice has been raised a bit similar to Fergie's on "Rock That Body". Dev is also featured in the video, the short haired girl with the diamond tattoo on her shoulder. Check back in Monday to see Dev featured! Niamh (pronounced Neeve) Egan is a new talent on Robbins. Her voice is clear and strong and sounds great in the styles of music presented. "You're The One" is a bouncy dance radio track worthy of Robbins, with a production that really showcases Egan's voice. While the original isn't my cup of tea, Wendel Kos really amps the track up for the dance floor with a catchy synth riff and catchy beats. And since no Robbins release would be complete without a Candelight mix, one is included here. It is here that Egan's voice truly shines. I hope she gets attention because there is a smoky aspect to her instrument that suits multiple genres well. Robbins has another hit on their hands here, but the confusion with the singer's name may cause some potential fans to pass on this. Give it a try, you might like it.

Song of the Day: Candi Lynn - "Hop'N Pop'N" (Disco Fries Remix) -
The Disco Fries (also an urban name for french fries with gravy) are really pumping out some hot remixes. After making a quiet entrance on the scene in 2007, they have quickly become go-to guys for short yet engaging electro jams. A recent winner was Estelle's "Freak", and now they have taken "Hop'N Pop'N" by Candi Lynn and really made it jump. The original is a rhythmic track and while it's not bad, there isn't much to really set it apart and make it pop. The Disco Fries have provided this. The track becomes more focused under their hands and the original vocal gets a little more dramatic. The beat ain't nuffin to scoff at either, so give this one a spin and see who's hop'n and who's pop'n.

Dragonette's legacy is becoming that of classy synthpop that never sounds trendy or overdone. While typically charged with sexuality, Dragonette's tracks are produced in such a way that not singing along is something of a crime. When Fixin to Thrill was released, Dragonette fans let out that pent-up breath waiting for new material, and now they've recently released an EP of two new songs. Our Summer Volcano is comprised of "Our Summer", a jumpy and energetic party track that surely gets you moving, and "Volcano" which really brings down the mood. Between the two, "Volcano" is the winner as a sleeker and more classic type of track, with some house elements thrown in the synthpop which allow Martina Sorbara's vocals really soar. Between the two, Dragonette has got your summer covered.
"Our Summer" - ... Song of the Day: Afrojack ft Eva Simons - "Take Over Control" -
Eva Simons may not be a familiar name to many. She recently had a track named "Silly Boy" that was often mis-dubbed as Lady Gaga & Rihanna, as the singer's voice emulates both singers somehow. She lends her vocals to this new track from Afrojack, "Take Over Control". Afrojack does some incredible style meshing on "Take Over Control", switching from progressive vocal house to the Dirty Dutch sound that is doing so well these days. Simons' voice translates well over both as Afrojack also manages to mesh the two sounds together towards the end of the track rather than keeping the two ideas entirely separate. So truly, "Take Over Control" is the best of both flavors, and with any justice, will light the dance floor on fire.

The transformation of Kaci Battaglia from tween popstar ("Paradise," "Tu Amors," "I Think I Love You") to sultry dance vixen continues with the release of "Body Shots." Following up her chart-topping "Crazy Possessive," Kaci sings of a debauched night out getting drunk with her friends. With mentions of whipped cream, wet dreams and sucking it down in the lyrics, the inclusion of a rap by Ludacris seemed like a no-brainer. The original version is perfect for pop radio and remixes by Dave Aude and Wawa energize it for clubs. The record is instant. The first time I played it at the club, the crowd was into it and people were either holding up their phones to Shazam it or running up to ask me what it was. The video has the same effect - instant reaction. Could this be the song that crosses Kaci over to the mainstream? Simply answered, ... Song of the Day: Kaskade featuring Martina of Dragonette - "Fire In Your New Shoes" -
Martina Sorbara has been a breath of fresh vocal air since Dragonette debuted back in 2007, and combining that voice with Kaskade's engaging production style on "Fire In Your New Shoes" is definitely a winning concept. Kaskade layers some anthemic synths over the pop rock style of the track in a way that promotes his own distinct sound of production while also appropriately supporting Martina's voice. The beats are hot and compelling as well, making this a great track to shake your hips to. Check out Kaskade dropping the vocals for this over Swedish House Mafia's epic track, "One".

A cover of Company B's "Fascinated" seems like an odd choice by underground DJ Dan. At first I though, is he trying to play the gay card with another version of the 80s freestyle classic that Suzanne Palmer rocked just recently with Peter Rauhofer. The new version is quite true to the original version - updated with some added electro beats and vocals by DeAnna Dellacioppa (half of tHe FreQueNcY with Eric Lumiere, the vocalist of Filo & Peri's "Anthem.") For those requiring a grittier rerub, there is a Chew Fu remix. With "Fascinated" and his recent take on "Operator," I was scratching my head trying to figure out what DJ Dan was doing -- trying to become a credible version of Almighty or Kloned? Then I realized that these are singles from his forthcoming debut artist album 'Future Retro' where he will track his musical history and chart his fu... Song of the Day: Darius & Finlay featuring Nicco - "Hold On" -
Oftentimes different producers will be inspired to work with the same source material or sample and 80s records seem to pop up in multiple records at the same time. Out on Pacha records right now is a cover version of "Heat of the Moment" by Steven Lee & Gaby Dershin featuring the original artist. Asia. While that track is being promoted to US clubs, the Austrian pranksters Darius & Finlay have wisely sampled (or interpolated the melody) of "Heat of the Moment" to create a great summer dancepop hit "Hold On." The original track could be one of those cool, credible tracks that the underground guys go crazy for and the addition of Nicco's vocals make it ripe for crossover for dance radio. So basically it's a record that will fit Ibiza as well as the Jersey shore. Remixes by Sash!
